We thank our patrons and their curious children seeking to learn something new, tangible and still relevant in the 21str century: stamp collecting--- the Hobby of Kings, the King of Hobbies.

Topical Paradise: Goblins, Ghouls and Good Stamp Collecting

Topical stamp collecting is fast becoming the most exciting category of stamping in many a year.  What has becoming the most fascinating aspect is how the categories are expanding and some becoming brand new. Halloween is now a fast grower with France kicking in their two cents by creating a new series.

We hope to see more stamp categories join to make topical collecting as fun and educational as humanly possible. Many thanks for collectors around the world giving us the jump on new developments. You guys are awesome.

Eat some candy for me. I'm busy craving out two pumpkins for the kids.

United Nations: Unique Platform for Various Causes

The United Nations is often accused of being an ineffective bloated bureaucracy bent on preaching much and acting little, but strangely enough its health and charitable arms do make a difference in a world still too much at war.

From a stamp lover's perspective the United Nations is a singularly unique entity that produces stamps on an international basis that often tout a cause that needs attention: polio, sleeping sickness, poverty, abuse, drug addition, etc. For a less than perfect institution the United Nations has done a great deal to support stamps and postage throughout the world.

The first stamp convention I attended was held at the United Nations in New York in 1973 and I saved the items my father and I purchased and never forgot the educational and entertaining experience.

Here's to the UN, keep up the good work and please strive to improve like in spending your money wiser and actual peacekeeping to stop a war.

Lessons In Irony: Syria

Above is the Syria stamp from 1998 touting human rights. This is the ultimate irony since its independence in 1946. Before that date is was controlled by Turkey and then by France, both which used its own altered postage for Syria but never issued strictly Syrian stamps. As witnessed by recent news like most abused entities it became a routine abuser upon independence by killing its own citizens for the past 5 decades and often engaging in massive criminal and political enterprises against it neighbor country Lebanon.

Black History Month

This is the information of the US Postal Service website.

What is the Black Heritage Stamp Series?

The Black Heritage Stamp Series is a collection of stamps commemorating the accomplishments and contributions of African Americans throughout American history. Their acclaimed societal, political, and cultural undertakings are highlighted and extolled through this series.
Additional facts about the Black Heritage series:

  • The Black Heritage stamp series is one of the most popular of the Postal Service's U.S. commemorative stamp series. As a result of customer request for the stamps, the Postal Service recently began producing a greater quantity.
  • It is not the policy of the Postal Service to destroy stamps while they are still available for sale. Generally, commemorative stamps are available for sale for a year after they are issued.
  • The Black Heritage series began in 1978 with a stamp honoring American abolitionist Harriet Tubman. Each fall, the honoree for the following year is announced.

Born a slave, abolitionist Harriet Tubman was the first African-American woman to be honored on a U.S. postage stamp. She was a conductor for the famed Underground Railroad, which helped many slaves escape to freedom before and during the Civil War.
The 13-cent stamp was issued February 1, 1978 and a 32-cent stamp was also issued on June 29, 1995.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was the most powerful and popular leader of the African-American protest movement of the 1950s and 1960s. He spearheaded mass action through marches, sit-ins, boycotts, and nonviolent demonstrations that profoundly and positively affected America's attitudes toward racial prejudice and discrimination.
